In perl, there is a long time standing answer from perl-5-porters that 'you can do that using magic'. Of course, no documentation actually tells you how to use magic, nor are the examples plentiful or the mailing lists helpful! In fact, there is a mystic aura around magic scaring people away from it.

The talk will take people through what magic is, how it works and show exactly how to use it step by step. The audience will come away from the talk knowing how they can create magic that lets them override what perl does with variables.
